About Mel MacKaron

Actor

I have been working as an actor since I was fifteen. My first professional show was Bye-Bye Birdie, in which I played Harvey Johnson for Special Services in Germany. Since then, I have appeared in many stage productions (musicals; i.e., light opera) are my favorites, dinner theatre productions, film, and television. See my resume for a partial listing of credits.
Musician

Producer

Aside from music albums I have produced, I have also been executive and senior executive producer on many films, some of them international and award winning. Among these are Fragile Storm, Her Mind in Pieces, Evie’s Christmas Gift, Curiouser, I Am, and Self-Charm.

Writer

It’s hard to cite a genre that I haven’t written . . . poetry, short stories, technical articles, travelogues, one-act and full-length plays, film shorts and full-length features, docu-dramas. Here are a few examples: Dinner theatre plays such as Murder on the Spanish Main, We’ll Always Have Paris, and Unemployment’s Gonna be the Death of Me; Short stories like “The Slave of the Lamp”; As well as my own doctoral dissertation, key editing and guidance on other doctoral candidates’ dissertations; For film and television: The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass, Evasion, “Candy Man”, The Vortex; Technical and entertainment articles: “Mr. Bond, Your Motorcar is Ready”, “In Praise of the Pumpkin”, Southern California Daycation”, “A Call for Telephone Etiquette”, “Christmas Crafts”, “Lock Picking Made Simple”; many more.
My entertainment career began as a musician, primarily a singer. I started with music from traditional musicals such as My Fair Lady and Camelot, then entered the world of popular music--C&W and pop rock. I became a proficient guitarist and brass player (mostly trumpet) and made my mainstay the sounds of the British Invasion. [The Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand” changed my musical direction forevermore. Currently, I have six CDs out, all available at popular music sites. [I’m not listing previous singles, “albums/LPs”, cassettes, or eight-tracks (What are those???)]: Eve of Destruction - 2023 -- a single that delves into the hardships of our times; click here to enjoy this single on Spotify. The Last Living Argonaut: -- covers of groups like the Beatles and the Monkees, individual artists like Ricky Nelson and Eric Clapton, and original numbers like “Tomorrow”, “Hurricane”, and “Love’s Canticle”; click here to enjoy this album on Spotify Taking the Long Way Home -- a journey through the arc of a relationship also featuring covers and original songs like “It’s All Over Now”, “Eventide”, and “Rockin’ on the Beach, Baby”, plus five traditional instrumental numbers; click here to enjoy this album on Spotify Here Comes the Son -- twelve traditional hymns blended with bits of Beatles songs (all instrumentation, arrangements, and vocals by myself); click here to enjoy this album on Spotify That First Christmas Day - a single recording meant to touch your heart with the beauty of the nativity. click here to enjoy this song on Spotify Things Here and There - exactly what the title suggests, and they’re all original, Mel MacKaron songs.. Of course, my signature genre, Pop Rock/British Invasion, is the dominant sound, but there are rockers, country-western, love ballads, and a lot of quirkness. click here to enjoy this album on Spotify Christmas Rocks -- pop recordings of great Christmas music with numbers like “Good King Wenceslas”, “The First Noel”, and “Joy to the World”. It also features vocals by Pearline (also featuring her on drums) and Erissa MacKaron (nepotism?); currently available only via direct purchase.
